This was perhaps the hardest part in this feature. Explaining or even describing digital art.
The main thing I find with digital art is the convenience, such as being able to press the wonderful Undo button and the lack of limitation as long as you persist and see your goal in the horizon. There are no pencils to break on you.
With the use of computers, one can animate, create vectors, colour, produce 3D images and even paint. In many cases, as the many I am to show you, they are crisp pieces of, well, art.
Whether using a mouse, a program or even a tablet, some beautiful things can be created and those beautiful things deserved to be shared.

1. Gift from Paradise by ~MagicalViper
Beautifully done. The colour scheme is wonderfully done, with the subtle pastel colors all working well together and creating a beautiful natural theme. The composition it's self is also very well done, I particularly like how the image is repeated on the left so the canvas doesn't look blank. I also like how the there is shading on the butterflies, flowers and frogs making them stand out from the rest of the shapes and images.
Artist Quote: The earth nature has some impressive animals and flowers. I was wondering how I could express a small part of it in a vector wallpaper and show a very small part of nature's prettyness.
2. Hail the Queen by ~Hollilicious
The first thing that drew my attention was the expression on this beautiful girl's face. Despite her dark surroundings and being taken in by Death himself, her expression is calm and innocent. It makes me wonder, how can she be so calm and so elegant when she has just become the queen of death?
Not only is this picture wonderfully drawn but the coloring is also done exceptionally well. Her hair is beautifully done; the highlights and shadows are created with a very high level of skill and talent that I wish I could master. The dress she is wearing is gorgeous, something I would love to wear (if only I somewhere to wear it.). Not only is the design beautiful, with it's cute little bells on the collar but the coloring makes this piece look as if it is made out of real silk and latex.
Well done Hollilicious, you have created a truly beautiful, dark piece of art.
Artist Quote: It's the first completed drawing ever of Fae, the main character of my story Amethyst Eyes. It started out as a doodle, and as I was working on it I almost gave up on it since I couldn't get it to look quite right, and I'm very glad I didn't
3. Never Coming Home by ~Thesis-D
Thesis-D has done a wonderful job depicting the sadness felt from losing a lover, with beautiful colors and designs in "Never coming home." The detail of the hair and hairpiece drew my attention right away as well as the beautifully shaded face and hands. The kimono and hairpiece are very uniquely designed and colored well. I particularly like the sketchy brush stoke outlines contrasted against the smooth brush strokes of the skin and clothing.
Artist Quote: I guess if I had to sum it up, it is about that moment of disbelief when you recieve word that someone close to you has died. Sometimes this moment is shorter or longer from person to person, but that moment right before your world comes crashing down and the emotions overtake you.
I wanted to capture that with the wife crying. Her body is reacting before her mind has the time to. While being a military wife is a theme in the picture, the overall theme is something universal that we all experience.
4. Snow Faery final colour by *LechuguitaReverde
The icy blues and greens used, help create the frozen mood of this beautiful snow faery with her breath as cold as ice. One thing I like about this picture is that even though she is a faery she has no wings and she is wearing a wonderfully drawn kimono; it is a concept I have never seen done before and LechuguitaReverde has done it very well.
Artist Quote: I wanted to show her not with the rage of the snow storms, but with the quietness of a calm snowy day, when snow falls swirling gently from the sky, as some kind of magic powder.
5. Star Light Surprise by ~unafraidsage
An awesome fractal art piece that draws your attention straight away with its unique colour scheme and beautiful shapes. This picture is wonderfully done and very unique, with the main star shape being made up of smaller stars at its center and points. The beautiful center draws you in to the bright blues and yellows, which bring the star alive and give it a heavenly glow as it twirls.

6. The Golden Egg by !Lilav
I do not know if this egg belongs to the dragon or not but the look on its face suggests to me that it is a proud mother, smiling at her unborn child. I particularly like pieces that depict a gentler side of a dragon's character and this piece is exactly what I mean. The dragon's eyes seem warm and gentle and the little smile that is forming at the corner of its mouth show that dragon's aren't always destructive, barbaric creatures.
Lilav has done an excellent job in coloring this picture as well. The purple skin of the dragon is contrasted well by the soft glow of the golden egg as it reflects on to the purple surface and the silver markings give off shine that highlights them well against the purple and yellow.
Artist Quote: In ' The Golden Egg' I was trying to capture the pride and joy that a parent dragon might fell upon the hatching of its wyrmling. (In my head, the eggs glow before they hatch.)
7. Let's have a Snowball Fight by ~Sekkosiki
Sekkosiki uses a unique style to colour "Let's have a Snowball Fight", using sketchy brush strokes that gives the piece an awesome texture. The colors of the winter sky and snow are reflected well by the characters eyes and hair and even the fluffy jacket is reflecting the bright atmosphere. "Let's have a Snowball Fight" is a very fun winter piece.
Artist Quote: As I was drawing this picture, I wanted so badly to have a real-life snowball fight, but there's no snow here.
8. My Curse, Your Bless by ~MauroCancino
What I loved about this was this rawness I seemed to see in it. Despite the large hand and rather harsh outfit, she appears so soft and gentle with the soft lighting, her expression and the gentle way she nurtures the bird in her hands. In this I see a certain strength rising and am amazed at the array of colours that project a warmth to me.

Artist Quote: In that moment, she realised than even the darkest course, cannot stop her willing to change her Destiny.
9. Keira Knightley by ~gwensaer
Wow, this piece is amazing and it only took 4 hours. This picture looks very realistic and gwensaer captured Keira Knightley's look perfectly in her expression. I could not tell that Keira was digitally painted until I zoomed in and even then I had a hard time believing this wasn't a photograph. The dress itself is beautifully done with the folds and scrunches in all the right places as Keira grips the skirt and the cardigan is done just as well. Keira's dark hair and makeup contrast well against the background and even though the background is roughly done, it goes very well with the picture.
Artist Quote: A new perspective of Keira Knightley.
10. Alluress by ~ciaee
Ciaee's piece Alluress has me in awe; I am still staring at it and thinking that the title fits the piece very well. The anatomy is excellent for such a unique pose and figures expression draws you in. The shading and tone on the face is very well done, her lips are amazing and a major focal point; as well as her slender arm and delicate fingers make your eyes travel to her very fingertips. The simple textured background adds a great affect to the not overly detailed shading on the figure as they merge together. A beautiful piece.
Artist Quote: I was just sitting in my room one day and I felt like drawing a human-like character who spends her time dancing, and singing to attract/allure human males to near her. Although she likes the attention, she is usually quite indifferent to their sweet words, promises, flattery and gifts. She's quite a tease, and that probably explains her "half-top".
11. A Mothers Love by ~helekri
"A mother's love" is a beautiful realistic piece of the love between a mare and her foal and Helekri has spared no effort in the beautiful mother and foals coat and mane. The anatomy of the mother is perfectly done, adding to the cheekiness and warmth created by her pose. The soft colors scheme plays in well with the atmosphere of the piece and the calmness the foal feels from the protection of its mother.
Artist Quote: The days you miss when you can't have them, the golden memories of everything all right" would sound right for someone like the cheesy romance writer I am.
12. Light Redo by ~alvonia
What I loved about this was the simple flow and depth of this piece without very many colours at all. The lines, the lighting and that one eye staring at me. Theres something so strangely beautiful about this piece that I still cant quite but my finger on.
(Comment on ~votrereine)
Artist Quote: By using simple colors and shapes, I tried to create an image that had a lot of dynamic light and space.
13. m.i.g 07 by !aaliyah23
"M.i.g 07" uses a striking colour scheme of bright blues, teals and black to create an awesome piece of digital art. This piece is so detailed, everywhere you look there is something to grab your attention and together a very striking and appealing composition is created. From the huge black splatter in the center to the tiny flowers and sparkles on the edges, "m.i.g 07" is an awesome piece. Be sure to full view.

14. Caught in the Act by ~innovation4d
For a first attempt, innovation4ds Caught in the Act really had me mesmerized. The composition and lighting wasnt just all but the transparency of the glass and the realistic splash of the liquid. In full view, I dont find it quite so impressive but it has this surreal quality that makes me like it still.
(Comment by ~votrereine)
Artist Quotes: "Caught in the act" is my first attempt to create digital liquid simulation effect in Cinema 4D, using its powerful tool Particle emitter, which I dreamed couple of years ago to do.
15. Thuzads Ghost by ~Drakan21
I admit it. I love dead black trees When I first saw it, I thought it was a charcoal sketch. I thought it was traditional. On closer inspection, I can see its digital but it doesnt detract from it. Theres something forbidding and ghostly from this as if this tree is one of few left in a field during winter. The detail in the tree is really something.
(Comment by ~votrereine)
Artist Quotes: I've just always liked drawing very abstract trees, especially dead trees, because I've always thought of them as 'ghosts' .. not in the traditional sense I guess, but in the way they linger in a living world after they've died, reminding us of what they may have once been.
The name (Thuzad) is ofcourse, from Warcraft. It really doesn't have anything to do with the piece itself, but I kinda thought some part of the tree looked like the character from the game.
16. Two Stages of the Day by ~FSDown
A very unique piece of vector art that creates a reversible picture depending on your mood or time of day. FSDown has created this piece with a contrasting colour scheme of yellow: orange and blue, reflecting night and evening. The shapes in the center become almost rocks as people stand:sit on them underneath the beautiful silhouette trees and divide the two stages in half. So take a look and have "a fun night" or "a heartwarming evening".
Artist Quotes: I made this piece when I was under a lot of stress. I wanted to make it as uplifting as I could without making it seem like that's what I was trying to do. I feel its one of my more thorough pieces.
17. Native American Girl by ~Abraxa365
Abraxa365 is a very talented digital artist and Native American Girl shows just how great her skills are. The coloring and shading in this is amazing making this piece look very realistic and almost life like. Not only does Abraxa36 have wonderful digital skills but her traditional skills are great as well; the expression and anatomy of this girls face are wonderfully done. The coloring of the feathers and beadworks add an authentic look to the Native American Girl and are beautifully detailed.
Artist Quotes: This digital painting was made from a pencil drawing that was scanned into the computer. My interest in this work was to explore my range with realism in the digital media. I spent a total of about 6 hours working on this particular piece, and I felt it was a good learning experience as well as a new "benchmark".
18. Dreams by ~booboo7
This piece may be a fairly simple looking piece of vector art but the composition is still striking and inviting. The girl kneeling on the small piece of land draws you into the heart on her chest and the hearts floating around her and the tree and leaves suggest that she loves nature and is simply enjoying being there. The simple background does not draw away from the main composition and instead adds to the atmosphere of nature with the subtle clouds along the diagonal lines.
Artist Quote: I'm fairly new to sculpey but I love to go to the supermarket and get ideas for more little foods to make.
19. Under Full Sail by ~MaciejZielinski
This is a wonderful photomanipulation because of the textures, so many of them that work so well together. The complementary colours of blue and bronze, turquoise and orange were really just beautiful.
However, what I do not like about this piece (and debated with myself over whether it still deserved to be featured) is the fact that it does not say where the photos came from that created this. As stunning as I find this, I think referencing your sources it is the right thing to do as a photomanipulator, stock adorer and former (and small time) stock artist. It really rubs me the wrong way.
Artist Quote: No comment.
20. 1:58 by !ruiagneloup
"1:58" is an unusual and interestingly beautiful stock manipulation piece. The snowy hills that continue into the distant, contrast well against the beautiful soft pastel colors of the sky. The lonely figure placed in the foreground seems so small to the universe created in the sky above him and yet this piece still gives off a warm and calm atmosphere.
Artist Quote: Perhaps this work represents the situation that many people live: being alone while other people are happy in other place.
Note: A number of the no comments are such because the artist has not replied or had nothing to say.
